Balance

Keeping the right equilibrium of swimming pool chemicals in your water is essential to a sanitary swimming pool and getting an enjoyable swim many times. Your water will keep looking and smelling fresh and, most importantly, the growth of bacteria and algae will be kept to a low level, this will ensure that everyone can enjoy your pool in safety.

Starting

The initial step is to make sure that the water has the right mix of chemicals when you fill. A swimming pool chemicals starter kit could be the best thing to use here to have confidence that you get it right from the start, and there is a large selection available on the market just like the ones we manufacture and distribute from our swimming pool and spa chemicals store.

After this you need to make sure you test using a testing kit. This makes sure you get the right balance of chemicals

{To let you get the best from your swimming pool or spa it is important that the water is tested on a regular basis and you make sure you keep it in a healthy state. This can be achieved simply by the regular use of pool treatment chemicals. The testing of the pool / spa water will at first seem daunting, however test kits are easy to follow and will give quick reliable results. }

The basic tests are
1.     pH
2.     Alkalinity
3.     Sanitiser (Free Chlorine or Bromine)

Manual Inspection
1.     Investigate the pool water for a clear appearance, and ensure it is clear.

Additional Tests
1.     Calcium hardness
2.     Combined chlorine
3.     Copper levels

To assist you , you can always record your results and the chemical additions that you make.
Remember to test the water again after the addition of chemicals to ensure you have reached the correct chemical levels.

Don’t Forget

* If the water is cloudy then it is not safe to swim, people cannot see the bottom and might dive into shallow water!
* People in difficulty under the surface of thewater might not be visible!
* Cloudy water is a sign that there is a problem with the treatment.

Sanitation is the main reason for using swimming pool chemicals. Left not treated, a sports pool can become a breeding ground for bacteria and algae. The algae can affect the pool but the bacteria can make you sick!

The answer is a sanitiser like Bromine or Chlorine. Make sure that the levelsare maintained all the time and the level should be monitored and supplemented weekly or when required. Remember, if you want to decrease the levels, just put more water to your pool to dilute the chlorine. There are a number of options for delivering the Chlorine to your pool. Try using slow dissolving tablets in conjunction with a chlorinator or, alternatively, a floater. You will need to be careful that the floater stays in your swimming pool though!

Twice a month you will also need to dose your swimming pool with extra pool chemicals to deal with the waste by-products left by the Chlorine, i.e. the dead bacteria and algae. Most will, of course, have been removed by your filtration system but some will remain and degrade leading to unpleasant smells and skin and eye irritation. You should soon know when this is appropriate because your water will appear , you can use clarifiers and flocculents to sort this out.

When testing your pool, watch the ph levels. This measures the acidity in your pool. The balance needs to be kept stable to enable the Chlorine to work efficiently. After that, an efficient pool filtration system will help you to keep your water clean and sanitary. This is the key to an enjoyable swim every time!

What kind of hot tub compan do you think is the best?

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

I just baught a hot tub from hot springs spas. Do you like them. And can you answer my question and about Hot Springs Spas.

Hard to get parts for when it breaks down unless you go through a dealer that will charge you the maximum when the warranty runs out. I personally am not a fan of their moto massage seat. Most tubs I go to of theirs it is broken and the customer rarely wants to spend the money to fix it. It's a very "dated" design. Not a fan of their jets either. (Only jet on the market I am nuts about is Sudances') I bet the only thing I ever repair will be the seal behind it in twenty years when I do it for everyone's.

You do have a great tub from a very reputable company. Take care of it properly with balanced water and enjoy it for many years to come. I would have bought another brand though. Sort of do you own a Lexxus, Mercedes or BMW.

How do I replace a hot tub light bulb?

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Our light bulb in the hot tub is not working suddenly. The bulb is likely burned out. Do I have to drain the hot tub to replace it or is it something accessible from within the frame of the hot tub?

Also, does this mean the bulb is burned out or is there something else wrong? I read online about checking different parts.

Open the access cover and look in the frame and you will see the back side of the light socket.(you will see two wires going to it) Usally the whole socket will twist out but sometimes they have a tab like a pill bottle that you have to press before twisting. Most brands have a 12volt bulb that you can find at any home improvement store.

Buying the best inground swimming pools made from fiberglass

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Having an in ground pool is a dream that many people have. When looking at in ground pools there are many different options. For many years the desire for design flexibility made people choose a concrete pool over a fiberglass pool. For some a fiberglass inground pool bore too much resemblance to a bathtub. Fortunately there is now a much larger selection when you are looking at installing a fiberglass pool kit. You can get a great pool design with much less maintenance than you would have with a concrete pool.

There are many advantages to using a fiberglass inground swimming pool. Quality control is one big advantage. Since a fiberglass pool will be constructed in the confines of a factory setting the quality of the finished product is more easily controlled. It is also much easier to install a fiberglass pool than a concrete pool. Fiberglass pools give you a more durable option if you live in areas prone to earthquakes since they have a flexible design.

Installing a fiberglass in ground pool is often much less costly than having concrete pool installed. Vinyl liner pools will almost always be less expensive than fiberglass in ground pools but offer much less durability. Chances are you will need to replace a vinyl liner pool much quicker than you would like.

Fiberglass pools are also much easier to keep clean than concrete pools. Fiberglass in ground pools have a smooth surface which is resistant to the growth of algae and the buildup of bacteria on the walls of the pool. This means that you can use fewer chemicals to keep your pool in the proper pH balance. You will have less expense in terms of heating a fiberglass pool because it will retain heat better than a concrete pool. You can customize your fiberglass in ground pool to give you the perfect look and feel. You can change the look of a fiberglass pool with gel coating, tile mosaics, or coloring. There are many options available for customizing your poolto give you features such as lighting and waterfalls.

Stay Safe With Pool Chemicals

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

If you're lucky enough to own a private swimming pool, spa or hot tub. Then you'll know that it's essential to keep your pool clean to use. To do this, you have to use swimming pool chemicals. Most people will know about pool chemicals, but do they know how potentially dangerous they can be?

Swimming pool chemicals can be dangerous, and even deadly. On January 14th at Clear Lake High School in Texas, 5 workers were taken to hospital after one of the 5, a contractor, mixed 2 chemicals together. The gases given off by the chemicals gave the contractor a head ache. He and four other school employees were sent to hospital.

Another example, which had the potential to harm alot more than 5 people, was in Ceres, a home depot store. The store was evactuated after a fire began in the Garden Center part of the store. The fire then spread to pool chemical containers which were then damaged, releasing toxic fumes into the store. Chlorine and other chemicals were released, however, the fire was contained thanks to the stores sprinkler system.

Only one person was injured due to the fumes, however, if the sprinkler system has not proven to be affective, then the fire could have become even more serious as more chemicals became involved.

These 2 stories show how dangerous and lethal swimming pool chemicals can be. So, how can you protect your family from these chemicals.

Here are a few tips to help you stay safe when using and storing pool chemicals:

  • Never smoke when using pool chemicals.
  • Never mix chemicals.
  • Wear protective glasses when handling pool chemicals.
  • Store the chemicals in a cool, dry space and out of direct sunlight.
  • Make sure the chemicals are out of the reach of pets and children.
  • Never store the chemicals above an adults head height.
  • Always store liquid chemicals below powder chemicals.
  • After handling pool chemicals, always wash your hands.

Those were just a few tips on how you can help to protect yourself and your family from the dangers of swimming pool chemicals.

Effective Guidelines When Buying Above Ground Swimming Pool Ladders

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Most people do not give much attention to above ground pool ladders. Of course if you are going to be installing an above ground pool you will most likely want to take a closer look at above ground pool ladders. You will need to carefully consider your options and choose the best one. Above ground pool ladders will be used all the time as almost anyone who gets in the pool will need to use it to get out.

You many even want to get two or more pool ladders to give you more choices when leaving the pool. Above ground pool ladders come in a few different styles. You need to think about which type will be most practical for your needs. You also want to think about who will be using your pool often when you select a ladder for your above ground pool.

Familes with teenagers will need to think about the wear and tear that can be caused by children and their friends. A bunch of kids in the pool at one time can mean your ladder takes a beating. If your above ground pool will get a lot of use it makes sense to pay a little more of a higher quality pool ladder. Those will a smaller pool or small children will not need something as durable. A lighter pool ladder will cost less. Think about the option of a folding A frame above ground pool ladder if safety is one of your concerns. When these ladders are folded they block access to your pool. This means that unsupervised children and pets cannot get in. Although folding above ground pool ladders are a little more expensive than regular pool ladders it is a small price to pay for the added safety.

Doughboy Pools are The Best in the UK

Monday, March 30th, 2009

My family and I love swimming. Swimming is a great way to get an all over body work out and relax at the same time.

Although we like to visit our local, open air pool, we can only do so in th summer months when it is open. During the winter months we need to travel into the city to take a dip in the busy municipal pool. Some lucky friends, who live nearby, recently invested in a pool of their own and we’ve been inspired to do the same.

They chose an elliptical Doughboy pool for their back garden. I’d never heard of Doughboy before (except the Pillsbury Doughboy) but I have to say I’m mightily impressed by their swimming pools. Doughboy have been in the pool business since 1945 and they have really perfected the quality of their versatile and affordable swimming pools.

Doughboy pools are the most popular form of steel and resin swimming pool available in the UK today. They are tough, durable and affordable. Our neighbours told us that it had taken them less than a weekend to get their pool erected.  They included a heat pump pool heating system which makes the water so comfortable that the children never want to get out.

The Doughboy pools have a number of really neat feature like the facility to expand the depth so that, as the children grow, you can increase the depth of the water up to a maximum of 7 feet. They come with a top quality pool liner, a sand filter, power pump and even a skimmer. All you really need to add is a heater, if you don’t like swimming in cool water.

It’s easy to see why the Doughboy pool is the UKs most popular form of above ground pool. That’s it, I’ve convinced myself. I think I shall contact the suppliers and order one for our back garden then brace myself for the hoard of children who will, no doubt, descend on our house.

How can I lower energy costs on my hot tub without ruining it?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Due to being laid off, we need to cut costs to the bone. The hot tub costs a lot to heat and we want to drain it and turn it off. My concern is that this will ruin the hot tub (freezing pipes, etc.) What is the best way to save energy costs while not ruining the hot tub? Is it safe to just dry-store it or would it be better to run water in it at a very low temperature.

Thanks!

Why don't you look up the manufacturer and call them? They would know. Srsly.

My hunch is that you also drain the pipes, but I don't know how that would work. But it certainly can be done — most people with hot tubs around here shut them down for the winter.

Swimming Pool - Keep it Secure and Safe

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Once you decide to own a swimming pool, you have to think seriously about safety and security, especially if you have children that would love to use it. If you own a below ground pool, you must remember that it can be a center of attraction to many visitors. Therefore it is only appropriate that you have an adult watching on the pool, particularly one who is an expert swimming. Otherwise, you have to see to it that there is a fence around the pool and a gate that can be locked to prevent people from getting near your pool, especially if you are not around.
